Biography
Amir Reza Arefi is a 21-year-old student who arrested two months before the June 2009
election. The IRI has alleged that he is a member of an exiled monarchist group and has been sentenced to death as a result.
An appeal has been lodged to overturn the execution sentence.

His lawyer, Mohammad Mostafai, confirmed
that Amir Reza was sentenced in Tehran on February 17, 2009. Despite having been arrested 2 months BEFORE the election, the
revolutionary court also implicated Amir Reza is post-election unrest and alleged that he had tried to plant bombs at polling
stations.
Amir Reza’s lawyer, Mohammad Mostafaei, wrote on his blog:
“On Sunday, February
14th, I was asked over the phone to go on Tuesday to branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court for a matter related to my client
Amir Reza Arefi. The fact that I had been summoned over the phone worried me… I went to the court and reviewed Arefi’s
ruling. Moharebeh (waging war against God), and has been sentenced to death based on the Islamic penal law.”
